- Descends Rebellious Qi, Expels Phlegm, and Stops Cough
For excess Lung conditions, Phlegm blockage in the chest, cough with profuse sputum, and invasion of Wind-Cold. This is an important herb in the treatment of phlegm accumulation in the Lungs causing coughing and wheezing, It is the principle herb for treating cough and dyspnea from any excess respiratory disorder. Although is warm and spicy, it is not drying.
Contraindications and Cautions
- Do not use in cases of Lung and Qi Deficiency, or where the Kidneys can not properly grasp the Qi.
- Use with caution in patients who have dry cough due to Lung Yin Deficiency.
- Raw Bai Qian can irritate the gastrointestinal tract and should be used with caution in cases with bleeding or peptic ulcers.

Notes
- Honey frying this herb will increase it's moistening properties and make it a better choice for patients with dry cough and dyspnea due to Lung Yin deficiency. Honey frying will also reduce the gastrointestinal irritation this herb can cause.
