Actions:

  • Nourishes the Yin, clears deficient heat, stops bleeding, and stabilizes the menses

Indications:

  • Uterine bleeding that alternates between light and heavy flow, continuous menstruation. The blood is thick red or purple with clots. There may also be irritability, a sensation of heat in the chest, lower abdominal pain, and dark urine.

Possible Tongue Appearance:

  • Red tongue with a yellow coat

Possible Pulse Patterns:

  • Wiry and rapid pulse

Western Uses:

  • Menorrhagia
  • Leukorrhea
  • Uterine Bleeding

Cautions, Contraindications, Herb Drug Interactions:

  • Do no use when metrorrhagia, menorrhagia, or metrostaxis is due to Spleen Qi or Yang deficiency

Preparation Notes:

  • Grind all herbs into an even powder and use wine to form into pills.
  • Take 9 grams, twice a day with warm water
  • Appropriately reduce dosages to prepare a decoction.
