Early or Frequent Menses - Epimenorrhea (Yue Jing Xian Ji)

Spleen Qi Deficiency

Formulas and Herbs:

  • Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Ren Shen, Huang Qi, Gan Cao, Dang Gui, Chen Pi, Sheng Ma, Chai Hu, Bai Zhu)
  • Alternate: Gui Pi Tang (Ren Shen, Huang Qi, Bai Zhu, Zhi Gan Cao, Dang Gui, Suan Zao Ren, Long Yan Rou, Fu Ling (Shen), Yuan Zhi, Mu Xiang, Sheng Jiang, Da Zao)

Modifications:

  • With short cycle/heavy bleeding: Subtract Dang Gui Add Hai Piao Xiao, Ai Ye, E Jiao
  • With Loose Stools: Add Shan Yao, Sha Ren, Yi Yi Ren with clots:Add Yi Mu Cao
  • With palpitations and insomnia: Gui Pi Tang
  • With Liver Qi Stagnation: Add Chai Hu, Zhi Zi

Kidney Qi Deficiency

Formulas and Herbs:

  • Gui Shen Wan (Shu Di, Shan Yao, Shan Zhu Yu, Fu Ling, Dang Gui, Gou Qi Zi, Du Zhong, Tu Si Zi)

Modifications:

  • With bleeding too watery: Add Lu Jiao Jiao
  • With heavy bleeding: Add Xu Duan, Bu Gu Zhi
  • With frequent urination: Subtract Fu Ling

Heat in the Blood: Liver Qi Stagnation > Heat (True Heat)

  • Plum Flower Patent: Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan (Xiao Yao San Add Mu Dan Pi Add Zhi Zi)

Modifications:

  • With excessive Heat: Subtract Pao Jiang
  • With difficult period with clots: Add Ze Lan, Dan Shen, Yi Mu Cao
  • With breast tenderness: Add Gua Lou, Wang Bu Liu Xing

Heat in the Blood: Yang Kan > Heat > Blood (True Heat)

Formulas and Herbs:

  • Qing Jian San (Mu Da Pi, Di Gu Pi, Bai Shao, Shu Di, Qing Hao, Fu Ling, Huang Bai)

Modifications:

  • With heavy bleeding: Subtract Fu Ling Add Huai Hua Mi, Di Yu
  • If period comes early with clots and cramping: Add Pu Huang, San Qi
  • With yellow urine or with heat in the urine: Add Mu Tong, Huang Lian

Heat in the Blood: Yin Deficiency > False Heat

Formulas and Herbs:

  • Liang Di Tang (Sheng Di, Di Gu Pi, Xuan Shen, Mai Men Dong, E Jiao, Bai Shao)

  • With Yin Deficiency Yang Kan: Add Xia Ku Cao, Bai Ji Li, Gou Teng, Long Gu, Gui Ban
  • With heavy period: Add Er Zhi Wan (Nu Zhen Zi, Han Lian Cao)
  • With constipation: Add Zhi Mu
  • To nourish blood: Add Shan Yao, Gou Qi Zi, He Shou Wu
