Acu Point SP-21 (Da Bao) Great Embracement

Actions:
  • Regulates Qi and blood and firms the sinews and joints
  • Unbinds the chest and benefits the lateral costal region
Indications:
  • Pain in the chest and hypochondriac region, asthma, general aching and weakness.
Notes:
  • Some texts locate SP-21 (Da Bao) in the 6th intercostal space, while other locate it in the 7th intercostal space.
Location (CAM):
  • On the lateral side of the chest and on the middle axillary line, in the 6th intercostal space.
Location (AMOA):
  • On the mid-axillary line, in the seventh intercostal space.
Needling Method:
  • Puncture obliquely 0.3-0.5 inch. Moxibustion is applicable.
